MONEY AVAILABLE THIS YEAH. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
WELLINGTON. Friday.
When the Prime Minister was presenting the public accounts for the 1921-22 financial year at Feilding on Wednesday night ho said that the excess of the customs revenue over the estimate in the previous year, amounting to some £2,409,000, was money that under normal conditions would have come to hand in later years, and that it could be properly applied now to maintaining a balance. Referring to this point to-day Mr. Massey said this excess revenue, due to over importation of goods during the 1920-21 financial year, had been reserved from March 31, 1921, for the purpose of supplementing the revenue of the year that had iust closed. The amount was held in cash and liquid securities and was available for the requirements of the current year.
