DANNEVIRKE COLLISION.
. TRAIN STRIKES LORRY.
ONE MAN KILLED.
[Nt TELEGRAPH 1 . —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DANNEVIRKE. Friday. A collision occurred at the Allardice Street railway crossing between 5.30 ;md 6 p.m. between a train and a motor-loiry, and resulted in the death of a man named o"Brien, of between 45 and 50 yeans of age. The deceased had only one leg, the left ono having been previously amputated above the knee.
The lorry was owned ar;d driven by (>. H. Mackay, butcher, of Terehunga. It was returning to that place from Dannevirko when the accident occurred. 7'hc driver did not see the train, which struct the lorry on the foro part, carrying it over the cattle-stop. Mackay was thrown on the cow-catcher and. carried 50vds. He got off unhurt when the train stopped. O'Brien was thrown on the rails and dragged for some distance. His head was severely injured. When picked up he -v&a dead.
