FANCY DRESS MAKE-UP.
The novelty of impersonation generally creates enjoyment, but to be a success one's own peraona.lity should be entirely ' subjugated by the fancy created. A fancy dress should be given a great deal of cor.sideia.tion, aud a woman should absolutely feel the part she dresses. Therefore make character study of yourself. Study yon.- face and figure, the shape of your head, the size of your eyes. If you desire to represent a gipsy, be a gipsy to the life; do not appear with a Dresden china complexion, and spoil the effect. The art of " make up" for fancy dress does not need grease paint. But certainly there must be a little more attention given to cosmetics used. Eyes and eye brows are features that must be dealt with according to character, and especially tho colour of the hair. The art of making up the eyebrow is to accentuate it by simply darkening the actual hairs, not • painting the skin. The best colouring is water black or water brown, used with a camel's hair brush. To make the eye stand out tho eyelid should be finely outlined with a dark eyebrow pencil, black or dark blue; the latter is generally the best for anyone 'who is fair. A small red dot of carmine in the corners of the eye neat to the nosts accentuates the size of the eyo. If going to a bal poudre, the make up should be light, and the cheeks accentuated with carmine. The colouring should not be applied too high on the cheek bones, for this gives an ugly effect. Beauty patches, if used, should never be too large, for they spoil the contour of the face. A small black dot under the left ey e will, !as a rule, prove most effective. All these small details for fancy dress •nay appear to be a waste of time to some women, but it is the small details that make or mar. a
