HOSPITAL BOARD.
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON TREATING VENEREAL DISEASE. The Auckland Hcspital Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, presiding. There were also present Messrs. G. Baildon, AL J. Savage, G. Knight, M J. Coyle, A. K. Howitt, J. Rowe, E N. Bagnall, anc! J. D. Chalners. Letters were received from the Otago and the North Canterbury Hospital Boards agreeing to the Auckland Board' 3 suggestion that a Dominion conference of Hospital Boaris be held m Wellington in July. The chairman remaned that the conference would be thoroughly representative of the hospitals cf the Dominion and was being welcomed by ail the boards. The Minister for Health was also pleased with the idea. A communication from the North Can*«rbury Board urging that the Government be requested to appoint a commission to inquire into the prevalence of venereal disease was briefly discussed. The chairman said he doubted if a commission such as was suggested would do much good. Ginics for the treatment of the disease had beer, established in the main hospitals of the Dominion. The one in Auckland -.vas doing excellent work. The ijosition n regard to the disease in the Dominion was known to the health authorities. <Hher speakers expressed similar views. It was decidiid to refer the matter to the forthcoming Dominion conference. An application from the Clinical Society ramehting that interest in certain trust moneys held by the board be utilised for the equipment of the library was referred ',i 'he Finance Committee. A letter from the North Canterbury Hospital Board requesting support, in urging the Government to provide instltnnons for the housing of cases of senile dementi.* was referred to the Dominion Conference.
