THE COMING CONFERENCE. [by teleoeaph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Friday. Wellington in January, 1923, is to be the gathering-place of scientific men from all parts of Australia and New Zealand, when the Australasian Association for tie Advancement of Science will hold its fifteenth meeting here. Meetings have been held in all the principal towns of the Commonwealth and New Zealand at intervals of two or three years since 1888. No meetings, however, were held between 1913 and 1920. The objects of the association are officially given as follows:—To give a stronger impulse and more systematic direction to | scientific- inquiry, to promote intercourse among those who cultivate Bcienee in different parts of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Dominion of New Zealand, and in other countries, to obtain more general attention to the objects of science, and the removal of disadvantages of a public kind which may impede progress, The meeting will take the form of public lectures and scientific besides excursions and various social functions. A , meeting of the Wellington committee was held to-day, Professor Kirk in the chair. A number of sub-committees were appointed. It was decided to ask the heads of all the local publio institutions to co-operate, and by this means a large reception committee. will be formed. Scientific societies in other centres will also be asked to assist in making the gathering s success.
