GOSPEL OF HARD WORK.
AN INTERESTING LECTURE. An interesting lecture entitled, "How the world wags" was, given by the Rev A. McCallum, president of the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australia, in tho Pitt Street Methodist Church last evening. There was a large attendance, the ohwch being packed. Mr. J. Stanton presided. Mr. MeCallum. Wivided his subject which was really the gospel of hard work, into three main divisions—how to make the best of oneself, how to make the best of one's neighbours, and how to make the best of circumstances. The address was full of good, sound, wholesome advice, interspersed with humour and anecdotes. The interest of the. audience was held throughout, and the address proved both interesting and instructive. In moving a vote of thanks to the lecturer, the Rev. P. N. Knight paid a warm tribute to Mr. McCallum, to whom he referred as one of the best loved men in Australia. He had risen to his present High position, president of the General Conference of Australia, by his fine personality and warm hcartedness.
