AMERICAN TARIFF.
A CANADIAN OPINION. RETALIATION INVITED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, April 5. The Premier of Quebec, M. Taschereau, in an interview, declared that the attitude of the United States on the tariff question invited retaliation in kind. He added : "What would Americans do if the Ottawa Government prevented them from getting wood pulp supplies from Canada?" He pointed out that 10,000 acres of forest land were denuded in Quebec annually to supply 1,000,000 cords of pulp wood to American mills.
