AUSTRALIANS IN LONDON. COOK READY FOR BECKETT. A, and N.Z. LONDON, April 4. George Cook, tho Australian boxer, is in perfect fottlo in readiness for his fight with Joe Beckett. The newspapers consider that Beckett has less chance of beating Cook than he had eight months ago, when a contest was almost arranged. Albert Lloyd, unlike Cook, cannot become acclimatised. Mr. Charles Lucas describes him as the mystery man of his team. One day ho fights wall, another he does not win a round. PRAISE FOR FRANKIE BURNS. A. and N.Z. LONDON, April 4. Commenting upon Frankie Burns' victory over Davies on Monday,, the Evening Standard says that Burns more than justified his reputation. He mado his debut in trying circumstances, boxing one-handed, which spoke volumos for his pluck and skill. Twice in tho fifth round he used his right. His punchos uusteadied Davies, but did almost equal harm to Burns, He is clearly the best boxer Australia has sent for a loug time. He is an attractive artist, and enthusiasts want to Bee more of him. The Daily News says that Burns was most elusive in dodging and feinting, and had Davies bewildered. The crowd frequently applauded Burns' genius in evading. The Star heads its report: "Frankie Burns Wins With One Hand." The Pall Mall Gazette says that Bums is positively Australia's greatest boxing star since Lcs Darcy. Burns' thumb was so bad on Saturday that it was Miought that it would be necessary to postpone the fight, but Burns did not want to delay the match, He did remarkably well in the circumstances.
