SUMMER FASHIONS.

On a gracoful figure the capo or cloak is undoubtedly a garment of much distinction, but it is : not everyone who lias tho knack of knowing how to wear it. From Paris comes word that the now, very deep shoulder capo for evening, or for wearing with tea-gowns, is one of tho most import-ant novelties of the year. A leading dressmaker there is showing the fichu outline on several of the more important models, but the shaped shoulder cape made of piece lace or embroidered muslin and bordered with a full lace flounce is tho success of tho season. Evening capes of duvetyn are Very effective, for not only aro the colours of this .delightful frabric very rich, but sometimes it '.s stamped with queer cut-out designs like Chinese lettering, and then lined with a colour contrast, tapes of artificial-silk-jersey can be very attractive embroidered with coloured silks and tinsel thread, or with elaborate and bold patterns in beads and bugles. These capes should have a coloured lining-contrast of crepe do chine. Generally the newest- capes are very long. For sports wraps there are many made of wool, circular in shape, with capuchin shoulder drapery. As a dust wrap, the enveloping capo of shantung (plain or printed) is a very sensible choice. Those of self colour aro trimmed either with silk braid to match or with printed shantung in vivid oriental colouring.

Crochet and Scalloping. Then, again, there is a pretty way with crochet, made into repousse .designs and inset. Very effective, for example, wero medallions seen the other day upon a set of fine white longcloth lingerie. The medallions, each of which resembled a widely opened rose, had beon crocheted bv the maker of the garments, and upon the camisole and chemise of the 6et she had placed little roses, linked by broderie Anglaiso festoons; while on the knickerbockers were larger flowers and no broderie Anglaiso. An effective edging for a dressing jacket is scalloping. That model was made of lilac crepe de chine, tho scalloped hems being bournd with white satin. A deep collar worked with broderie Anglaiso was also of white satin, and a white, picot-finished ribbon did duty for the girdle.

Neckwear Novelties. Medicis collars made of doublo tulle or organdie are supported by bands of velvet or satin ribbon, and the correct thing is to leavo a space in front where only the ribbon shows, the collar stopping off just in front of the ears. Many of the new dress bodices have high turn-over collars ribbon-tie finishing in a neat bow under the chin. Tho-latest "set" takes the form of plastron waistcoat and underslesves —the latter reaching from elbow to wrist and held up by an elastic. These dainty, items are made of muslin or tulle, and some of th e models arc richly inset with real Valenciennes, whilo others are adorned with fine tucks and hand embroideries.
