'ALLEGIANCE TO REPUBLIC. COUNTRYSIDE RAIDED. DE VALERA'S INCITEMENT. Bj Te!e:r»i'h— Press Association—Copyright (Received 7.30 p.m.) A, »nd N.Z- LONDON. Feb. 19. The Mid-Limerick and South Tipperary brigades of the Irish republican army hav o proclaimed their repudiation of the Free State, and have renewed their allegiance to tho republic. Contingents of tho Irish republican army are raiding various parts of the South and West, and are stripping those who refused to pay the original demands {or military purposes. Tho revolt of the Tipperary and Limerick brigades is causing the gravest anxiety in Belfast, where it is believed that the movement will spread to other districts and may lead to a dash across the frontier.
Mr. De Valera, in an inflammatory speech in Cork, declared that he and his party demanded that the people should 3?sert that Ireland was no part of the British Empire, and that they would not allow any foreign Government to rule in Ireland.
Tho division in the Irish republican army is emphasised by the following proclamation of tho South Tipperary brigade: "The army was established to maintain the republic and is determined to resist every power inimical to it. The establishment of a Free State Government is inimical to the republic and the majority of the Dail, and the general headquarters of tho army in conniving at the creation of the Government has forfeited the allegiance of citizens and soldiers. The Irish republican army is determined to raise the nation to resist the treacherous inclusion of Ireland in British possesions. The orders and decrees of the Free State Government are not biuding on the people."
