POWER BOARD'S ACTIVITIES.

PROGRESS OF RETICULATION. The advent of electricity from Horahora has been a great boon to the district, and the now power is widely used. The Te Awamutu Power Board controls an area of 309 square miles, which includes the Borough of Te Awamutu, the town districts of Kihikihi. Ohaupo, and Pirongia, part of Waipa and Waitomo Counties, and three of the adjacent road districts as its inner area; and also parts of tho To Rau-a-Moa and Otorohanga ridings, including Otorohanga township. On June 20, 1920. a poll for authority to raise £120,000 was carried without opposition, and on August 26, 1921, To Awamutu was lighted for the first time. Kihikihi received the current the following September, Pirorgia in December, and power will be delivered to Ohaupo shortly. In addition to the towns mentioned," tho board's electric lines extend for many miles into the country, and a largo number of farmers aro using the power for milking machines and other farm appliances. _ | The board is pushing its operations in the Paterangi and Te Rore districts, and a start will shortly be made to reticulate the southern area. When this is completed, in about August or September, the lines will be within a few miles of Otorohanga township in the outer area. Of the £120,000 loan raised, £63,000 has been spent. Mr. S. T. Johnson is chairman of the board, and Mr. D. McArthur the secretary-manager. The board emdlovs a staff of 60.
