TRANSPORT DIFFICULTIES.
The causes of failure of Adolphus Jar*s Park, sawmiller, of Te Kuiti, are given in his statement. Bankrupt took over a sawmill at Mairoa in 1918, the terms being a lease with a purchasing clause. He had no fundi, but borrowed £120 from his wife and daughter. Labour was soarcc and wages high, so that » crow could not be got for some time, and then a start could not be made owing to tie slate of I the roads. Bankrupt then bought a motorlorry, and did much better. As more timber was being cut than the lorry could deliver, a larger lorry was purchased lor £800. A tram track was laid down i>na other improvements made, but the rovts became bad owing to the heavy carting i Bankrupt spent £200 on the road, but was afterwards sued for £300 damages by the Waitomo County Council, the rase not having vet taken place Bankrupt had the misfortune to strain himself, and had not worked since, although he underwent an operation. Unable to carry ou liis contract, and indebted for £400, he sold his house, and his lorry was seized. The reason for failure was maimy *ho j difficulties of transport.
