CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.

HORSPOOL COMPILES 152.

The Auckland Cricket Association club championships wore continued on Saturday. Tho weather was fine, but dull, and tho wickets were fast, with keen outfields which yielded full measure for every stroke. Tho team scoring was only moderate, and there was a great lack of enterprise in tho batting generally, n,lthough some good individual performances were registered.

1 The principal attraction at Kdon Park ' was the meeting of Edon A and Parnell on No. 1 wicket. Eden had first use of the wicket, and compiled 162, of which, total Whelan made 40 by vigorous batting, Gillespie compiled 54, and Harvie played a good not out innings for 28. Dorrington and McLeod bowled well for Parnell, tho former keeping tho batsmen quiet, securing two wickets for 18, and McLeod four for 24. Parnell matde an unfortunate start, losing Anthony and Moore with only 18 runs on, the latter retiring hurt from a nasty knock on tho linger from a bumpy ball. At tho drawing of stumps Parnell had lost five wickets for 83, C. Badoley playing a good innings for 23 not out.

Grafton scored 260 against Univftraity on No. 2 wicket at Vden Park. The batting was somewhat inconsistent, but the featuro of it was a fine display by E. Horspool, who compiled 152 by solid cricket all round tho wicket. His strokes were marked by fine power and precision, and the batsman played the bowling with the utmost confidence. Patterson, an exCanterbury cricketer, played a good innings for 02. University in the first innings lost four wickets for 106, Lusk giving a good exhibition of batting for 56. At Remuera, on a good wicket Eden B scored 161 in the first innings, Blair being tho principal contributor with 63. Badoley bowled well for Y.M.C.A., securing fivo wickets for 52 runs. At the drawing of_ stumps Y.M.C.A. bad lost eight wickets for 138 runs, Miller playing a good innings for 34 and Christian 24. Ponsonby scored 177 in the first innings against North Shore on the home wicket, Smith being tho principal contributor with a carefully compiled 60. Riahton played a solid innings for 49 Coates bowled well for North Shore, securing six wickets for 46 runs. At the drawing of stumps North Shore had lost four wickets for 99 runs, 0 Dacre (35) and Elliott (37) being tho chief scorors.

EDEN A V. PARNELL. In the match between Eden A and Parnell. Eden A opened tue batting with l/uuiminu's and L. luyior to me bowling of Moure and Anthouy, out only hve runs wero scored ■ waen Antuony clean bowled Taylor. With two wicketa down lor 53, Whelan 1 joined Gillespie, and a bright partnership ' of batting was established, the pair, by good cricket, putting on 38 runs, and carryu.g tho score to 91, when Gillespie, who had piayed a sound innings for 34, with fine strokes in front of the wioket and on the leg side, waa caught by Duw off Hill at Bquare leg. Brooke Smith filled the vacancy, and j the score was raised to 108, when Whelan, I wno had played u vigorous innings for 40, i was caught by Anthony at point. Whelan's I driving and cutting were features of a tree I display, He hit seven fours and scored | well on both sides of the wicket. Heighway joined Brooke-Smith, and a period ol slow batting followed, the bowlers, McLeod and Dorrington, keeping the batsmen quiet. With eight runs added to the 6coro BrookeSmith, after reaching double figures, in at tempting a fino cut. played one from Dorrington on to his wicket. Five of the leading batsmen were out for 116 runs, when Juckson came in. to be ciean bowled by McLeod without scoring. With six wickets down for 121, Bennett joined Heighway, who after reaching double figures, was out to an uppish drive caught by Moore at midoff. The neit over Anthony got Bennett leg before, and eight wicketa were down ior 128 when Harvie joined Taylor. Harvie attacked tho bowling from the outset, and by fine driving quickly raised the score to 135. when Taylor was clean bowled by McLeod after the batsman had made a single. Cameron was the last man, and assisted Harvie to carry the score to 162, when he was clean bowled by Anthony. Harvie played fine cricket for 28, not out, and the innings closed shortly before five o'clock for 162. Parnell, opening with Moore and Anthony, made a poor start. The batsmen had carried tho score to 15 when hesitation on the part of Anthony going for a run and a smart return by Brooke-Smith at square leg taw the batsman thrown out in a close decision. The light was bad when V. Badeley joined Moore. The latter, with tho score at 18, retired, having received a bad knock on the forefinger of the batting hand by a bumpy ball by. Cameron, whose fast deliveries ware rising awkwardly at. times. ; McLeod filled the vacancy, and with the I score at 20. R. Taylor clean bowled V. Badeley. With two wickets down for 20, Spence and McLeod became associated, and the scoro was steadily takon to 32, when Spence was caught by Gillespie at square leg. Somervell crime in and was caught at the wicket by Heighway off Harvie. without scoring, and four wickets were down for 39 when C. Badeley joined McLeod, who. after running his score to 19 with good shots on the leg side, was bowled by Jackson with a slow leg break. Turbott joined C. GRAFTON V. UNIVERSITY. In the Grafton and University match Grafton had first use of the wicket, and, opening with Horspool and Sloman, made a poor start, tho first wicket falling at 15, when Sloman cut Lusk to Metgo and was caught in the slips. Patterson, an exCanterbury representative, joined Horspool. . who was batting well, and by sound cricket the score was carried to 58 ( when Patterson, who had played a good inningß for 32, was caught by Dunning at mid-i.ft\ Patterson played dashing cricket, and scored freely with clean shots all round the wicket, his strokes almost invariably reaching the boundary. Flower joined Horspool, who was balling steadily, and the score was taken to 90, when Flower was cloan bowled by Garrard. With three wickets down for 90, Sandman came in, and with the addition of 20 runs Sandman was bowled by Garrard with an off break. Baker was tho incomer, and a useful partnership was | set up with Horspool, the pair putting on 60 runs, and carrying the scoro to 177, when I Baker, who had compiled 30, in unorthodox fashion, was bowled by Flayer. Allcott filled the vacancy, and by' steady batting ! the score was taken to 222, when Allcott, | after compiling 15. was out to a good catch by Saunders in the outfield Wilson came in to be clean bowled by Playor Without scoring, and the seven wickets were down for 222 when C. EDEN B V. Y.M.C.A. The match between Eden B and Y.M.C.A. was played on a good wicket at Remuera. Eden B had first strike, opening with Gillespie and Davis, but the team made a poor start, the first wicket falling for five when Gillespie was caught by Cooper off Badeley. Pestles joined Davis, who, after scoring two runs played Cooper on to his wicket. Blair filled the vacancy, and tho ncoro was carried to 33 when Postles, who had compiled 15. was beaten by Badeley with an off break. With threo wickets down for 33 Mills joined Blair, and by steady batting tho pair carried tho score to 43, when Badoley disposed of Mills. Nixon came in, but failed .to Bcpre, Bicknell socrying his wicket. Five wickets were down tor 44 when Broberg joined Blair. The newcomer opened well, but after compiling 14 Broberg was bowled by Bicknell with an off break, Six wickets for 60 was tho state of the game when Saunders came in to play a sound innings of 50 before being bowled by Christian. The batsman's partnership with Blair wag a useful one, accounting for 61 runs and, carrying the •core to 121 for tho seventh wicket. Bennett came in. and after reachipg double figures was caught by Gorrio off Badeley.
