ADMISSION OF ALIENS.
POSITION OF DOMINIONS. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Feb. 16. Mr. Austen Chamberlain, in the House of Commons, replying to Mr. J. W. W. Hopkins regarding the proposed amendment to the British Nationality Status of Aliens Act of 1914, said that replies had not been received from all the Dominions, and he was endeavouring to secure their concurrence.
Asked if concurrence could not be requested by telegraph, Mr. Chamberlain said: "I think we must treat the Dominions with becoming respect. It is improper to hurry them unduly."
Mr. Hopkins : Has not this matter been going on for years'/
Mr. Chamberlain : The self-governing Dominions are self-governing; we cannot dictate to them. They must be allowed, to answer in their own time. It is important there should nonuniform legislation it this matter throughout the Empire.
