SUMMER FASHIONS.

Quaint looking round-necked jumpers in printed linen, ninon or shantung, coming down to just above the hips, and just a little slit up at each side—this is the newest craze. An adorable one in wallflower brown lines, with a Liberty pattern of yellows and nasturtium reds on it, was bound at the edges with red crepe do chine. The linen ones wear perfectly, of course, a-d have a delightfully gay, holiday air about them. But a blue and violet patterned ninon jumper, bound in black cire, \va s quaintly effective with a little pleated black taffeta skirt. And the quaintness of some of these Futurist patterns has given many people rather new ideas—for instance, a little blouse of navy-blue crepo de chine had big round medallions on the lower part of it, outlined by narrow black tire ribbon which had been lightly gauged on all round. By the way, these medallions are much in vogue as a way of trimming both blouses and frocks. They can bo filled in with vivid embroidery, merely outlined in chain stitch of contrasting silk, or bo trimmed round with narrow ribbon, fringe or even leather. Lingerie Notions. The modern girl takes a great pride in making pretty lingerie, especially when it is for her trousseau, and finds pleasant mental exercise in devising new trimmings that will hall-mark her as original. For example, a girl who has original ideas makes black sots to wear with her black toilettes, and lemon, blue, pink, orange, and naiisy-mauve ones to match frocks of those colours. iShe has embroidered the mauve set with [lights of butterflies and hemmed the lemon set, which wa 6 made of crepe de chine, with a white net fold. The blue set is trimmed with su/ingcoloured filet 'ace—which she recommends heartily on the score of hard wear—and to the pink one she has added a faggoting hem of pure white, while the hems of the lemon set were scalloped over a little edging of good butter-coloured ; Valenciennes lace set underneath. 1 Faggoting and Thonging. , Though faggoting is quickly done, it has the studious'y neat effect, when nicely worked, that all lingerie trimming must have if it is to receive Fashion's approval. | No other adornment is necessary when it ; is used to hem the garments, except per- { haps ribbon hows and straps for the i shoulders and to lace tho knickerbockers \ at the sides. Lacing or " thonging" is ] very prevalent now. and certainly when 1 ,, rendered in ribbon, is very pretty and so j [ direct and simple that it is suited to the, j material used and does not belittle it. j t For nowadays it is the material that | c matters; girls who take the trouble toNj make their own pretty raiment are wise I g enough to buy fabric as worthy as they i B can afford, and never ovor-trim it in any j h way. A favourite form of embroidery is j t the spot, done in washing silk upon silk j a materials and in thread upon white wear. c It is so well liked that spotted muslin is J t chosen for the hems of some sets, and j q very pretty it lookg in coffee-colour, for d example, upon a blue or mauve set.
