CONVICT LEAVES £140,000.
SUFFERED FOR TAX FRAUDS.
Mr. Alan Henry Bradbury, of Cerne Abbas, Branksome Park, Bournemouth, who died in Wormwood Scrubs Prison last February, left £141,924. His will, which has just been proved, was made in Winchester Prison. He was sentenced at the Winchester Assizes on July 15. 1920, to two years' imprisonment on a cliargo of conspiracy to defraud the Inland Revenue authorities of £59,000 in incomo tax, excess profits duty, and supertax. His will is dated July 20, 1920, five days after sentence had been passed. Bradbury was in Winchester Prison at this time, awaiting the result of an appeal to the Court of Criminal Appeal. At the hearing of the appeal, when' Bradbury and another were given the benefit of imprisonment in the second division, it was stated that restitution had been made to the Inland Revenue authorities.
The medical officer of Wormwood Scrubs Prison, in his evidence at the inquest, said he judged that Bradbury had not been capable of carrying out business transactions for 12 years. The coronor remarked that it was clear that Bradbury had delegated his onerous duties Jo others, and had had to suffer in consequence.
