DARING JEWEL THEFT.
PEARLS STOLEN FROM BED.
WOMAN'S NIGHT OF TERROR. LONDON. Feb. 1. A nerve-racking experience is related by a resident of Hampstead, where of late there has been an epidemic of jewel robberies.
Burglars secured two pearl necklaces worth £8000, belonging to Mrs. Krieger, who says that owing to the prevalence of robberies she wore the pearls when in bed , for safety.
She woke and saw a man's shadowy I form in the bedroom. There were two burglars there, and they threatened her with death if an alarm was raised. They demanded the whereabouts of the jewels. The woman tried to smuggle the pearls under the bedclothes, but one of the men, detected the move, and searched for them. Her husband was roused by this time, and he was similarly threatened. Finally the two burglars threatened to kill the man and his wife unless they were given 50 minutes' start before an alarm was raised. They left in a motor-car, after locking the bedroom door.
