PROGRESS OF HOWICK.
NEW TOWfN DISTRICT.
REPORT OF COMMISSIONERS,
The formation of the Howick Town District is recommended in the report of the Royal Commission which recently took evidence on the question of constituting a town district. The commissioners were Messrs. R. P. Greville and J. B. Wallis. A copy of the report was received yesterday by the Manukau County Council, from the Assistant Under-Secre-tary for Internal Affairs, who stated that it was proposed to give effect to the recommendation.
The report states that the Manukau County Council did not oppose the setting up of a town district, provided there was no dual control. After careful consideration of the evidence, the commissioners concluded that a town district, with boundary modifications, might be formed. The district, as modified, would contain 1030 acres, with an approximate valuation of £117,822, which, with a rating of l£d in the £, would produce an annual revenue "it £735. In addition, the town beard vti-uld have an hotel license fee of £40. The commissioners were satisfied that the requirements of the Town Board Act in regard to the number of householders and population were fulfilled.
