THE GENOA CONFERENCE.

LENIN ASKED TO ATTEND. PERSONAL INVITATIONS. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Jan. & The correspondent of the Daily Telegraph at Cannes says that though M. Briand, as president, is sending the proposal of the Supreme Council to Moscow, Mr. Lloyd George and Signor Bonimi are sending personal messages to Lenin urging him to attend the economio conference it is proposed to hold at Genoa. French opinion is aghast at the ease with which M. Briand acquiesced in the proposal to hold a conference with Russia. The correspondent adds; "I believe his acquiescence was due to a cynical be.iot that nothing will come of the Genoa Conference, which the French regard as a British fantasy, though it would be impolitic to say so openly." A message from Rome stales that the Italian Government has informed the Russian delegation that the time is opportune' for the presence of Lenin ac the Genoa Conference.
