MAIN ROADS.

Sir,—May Ibe permitted to say_a few words regarding enr main roads in the North IsUi.d! On a recent trip I went from Auckland to Wellington via New Plymouth and returned by way of Napier, Taupo, and Rotorua. What a beautiful trip this would bo if we were blessed with roads similar to those in the Taranaki Province! Between Napier and Taupo and Taupo to Rotorua and Rotorua to Cambridge the roads are, to say the least of it, in wet weather, abominable, especially in the Jlamaku bush, wherein I spent two and a-half hourg 'of the worst game of playing submarines I ever had. This particular piece of road is like trying to walk a greasy pole on wheels, When ono thinks of the beautiful asphalt roads of Taranaki, it make* one think that- the toll-gate system is the best, after all. P. F. Nasu.
