MATAKOHE MEMORIAL.

UNVEILING CEREMONY. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] MATAKOHE, Tuesday. The Matakohe memorial to fallen sol diers, a fine monument occupying a pro minent position on an allotment fronting the church, was unveiled to-day by the Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for Public Works. A large gathering -.vitnessed the ceremony, presided over by the Rev. R. A. McDonald. Addresses were given by the Hou. J. 0. Coates, Mrs. A. E. Harding, and Mr Roland Hamts. The monument is of granite from Messrs Coates' property at Hukatere. It was quarried by the voluntary labour of the settlers. The monument is the work of Mr. J. Bouskill, of Auckland. Tho Dargaville Brass Band attended, and territorials and cadets were on parade. The firing party consisted of returned soldiers. A captured German gun, presented by the Government, occupies a permanent place beside the monument.
