New York City is now recovering from one of the most disorderly New Year celebrations in it l ? history. Despite the outwardly mild nature of this celebrations up to midnight and the comparatively email amount of drinking in public, the hours between midnight and five o'clock in the morning were marked by unparalleled viciousness and violence. From every part of the city shootings, stabbings, assault* with lists, revolver butts and empty whisky bottles, hold ups, robberies awl other crimes are reportedA remarkably large number of hooligans were observed in the early morning hours in important streets, including fifth Avenue. There was continual racket and disturbance by gange of young toughs, who rushed into the main avenues from side streets and attacked men and women. Five deaths are reported and at least 16 stabbing cases. There are countless cases of alcohol poisoning.
