CHARGES OF HERESY.

— ANGLICAN CLERIC INDICTED. AN EX-NEW ZEALANDER. Australian and N-Z. Cable Association. (Eecd, 9,15 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 1. The Bishop of Oxford has appointed a commission to inquire into the allegations of heresy against the Rev. H. D. A. Major, formerly of New Zealand. Replying to a letter by Canon Peter Green, of' Manchester, Mr. Major said his view of the Resurrection did not include the survival of any physical integument. Resurrection was a spiritual, not a physical event. The specific charges formulated against Mr. Major are: "Teaching doctrine contrary to Christianity as set out in the prayer book and the Scriptures, in which the Resurrection of the body ia taught explicitlv as a vital element of the system, and importing Buddhist teaching into the Christian religion." Mr. Major, interviewed, indignantly denied the latter chirge. Regarding the former, he could not understand what it vas to which his accusers objected. The Rev. Henry D. A. Major has been principal of Ripon Hall, Oxford, 6ince 1919. Ho is the editor of the Modern Churchman.
