Pickett . failed to provide against a strong attack and ; Gyles announced mate in two. Roberts v. Stevens.—Queen Bishop GambH declined. An even opening which passed without much incident to an end gamer Roberts had a pawn to the good but failed to utiliso his advantage and Severne forwd ! a draw. Evans T - Howard.—Evans with a Giocoo Piano got a good attack marred by prerinitate eichangra, Howard played a forceible end game and won on 61st move. Miller v. Connell.—Connell onened the Charlick Counter Gambit, which was declined. Miller emerged from the end game with the advantage, but gave Connell a chance to draw by perpetual check. Dunlop v. Hicks.—Hicks played Yates' defence to the Queen's Bishop Gambit offered by Dunjop and got much the better of the openin.?- Later he won a pawn and lost the exchange but succeeded in forcing a draw.
