MR. MASSEY'S VIEW.

APPROVAL OF DOMINION. [B? TELEOBAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. In response to a request for his opinion on the Pacific Treaty, the Prime Minister has sent the following statement to the Times, London:-* " New Zealand warmly approves of the quadruple treaty which has now been signed. I have repeatedly, both in London and in the New Zealand Parliament, expressed the opinion that to _ ensure permanent peace among the nations of the world it would be necessary for the three great naval Powers to come together and arrive at a mutual understanding, but I scarcely hoped that a formal treaty would have resulted, because imany citizens of the United States were known to be strongly averse to such an arrangement. I welcome most heartily what has been achieved )n this direction, and hone the treaty will be agreed to by the Senate. ' "I am very pleased that France has been joined with the other thrV; nations, and am confident that the new comnact if ratified, which I firmly believe will be the case, will prove a most effective factor in the maintenance of -peace In the Pacific. The world needs a rest from the scourge of war. The best possible course is being adopted to that end, without the loss of national prestige to any of the high contracting parties."
