RECIPROCITY PROPOSALS. THE EMBARGO ON POTATOES [BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL REPORTER.J WELLINGTON, Thursday. In the House of Representatives,. Mr. D. Jones (Kaiapoi) asked the Minister for Chißtoms whether in any negotiations that might take place betwen Australia and New Zealand in regard to a reciprocal tariff, he would endeavour to get New Zealand potatoes admitted into Australia as long as they were free from disease. At the present time the farmers were under a hardship in having their potatoes prohibited. The Hon. W. Downie Stewart replied that at present negotiations were proceeding with Australia in regard to trade between the two countries, and the Prime Minister and himself were hoping that they would be sufficiently advanced to enable Parliament to consider them during the present In these negotiations they were bargaining on 'detailed items, apart from general details, and if anything could be done in regard to potatoes it would he done.
