RUSSIAN FAMINE FUND.
ENDORSEMENT OF APPEAL. The joint committee of the Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance met yesterday. The chairman, J. H. Gunson, presided. An appeal for contributions to the Russian famine fund was received, as published yesterday. Tho committee decided to endorse the appeal, and commend U> citizens the citizens' list, which is now open at the Town Hall. An account of the steps taken to coordinate the work of the society and tho St. John Ambulance on the lines adopted in England, was given by the Hon. George Fowlds, He stated that the draft agreement would come up again for consideration before the amalgamation was finally effected. Thanks were extended to Mr. Wesley Spragg for his efforts in collecting £10 toward a fund for providing Christmas cheer for the crippled children in the King George Hospital, Rotorua. A request to be allowed to hold a street collection in aid of the starving children of Russia was received from the Hew Zealand Women's International and Political League by the City Council last evening. In view of tho fact that there is already a list at the Town Hall in aid of this cause and that the Red Cross Society is acting in the matter, the application was declined.
