Anticipations of brisk trade this year run high, and the usual influx Of visitors from the country districts is expected to commence in the immediate future. With this addition to the normal population business will almost certainly improve, as is ever the cstae on the eve of the annual festive season, s \ The art of window-dressing, which does so much to attract purchasers, has been brought up to a. very high standard in this city in recent yeajs* and, with goods of firsfcdass quality to exhibit, the Chratmas shop-front aspect is one which is. bound to entice numerous buyers into the various well-stocked shops. Tradespeople have already commenced to fulfil country orders, and have made every preparation to cope with the wants of a multitude of city customers. Well-filled shelves and counters are to be found behind the enticing displays in the shop windows, and the purchaser of Christmaa gifts, or those " in search of seasonable delicacies and general necessities, have an almost bewildering variety from which to- make their selections. The children have been extremely well catered 'for this season, as the elaborate toy displays in many large establishments indicate. - „ In the following columns, descriptive of businesses which visitors will find it profitable to inspect, wi)J be found mentioned establishments where not only the special requirements of the- holiday season may be obtained, but every need of the home and farm.
