The donations to the fund for the United Protestant Orphanages announced to-day bring tli e total to £5135. The ! committee has erected an indicator on the Victoria Arcade building at the comer of Queen Street and Shortland Street. The queen coronation ceremony, repealed by the Bayfield (Heme Bay) school children* in the Town' Hall for tho benefit of the orphanages fund, was staged exclusively for school children and the young people from the orphanages yesterday afternoon. The performance for adults will be given this evening. At yesterday's ceremony nearly all the city and suburban schools were represented; the hail been crowded With expectant children. That the young pioplo were greatly impressed and enjoyed every minute was evident by periods of absolute silence broken by salvos of applause as some' charming scene unfolded. The limelight effects on tho various settings were especially effective At to-night's performance an excellent concert programme will supplement the spectacular crowning ceremony. Those taking part in this portion of the programme include tho New Zealand Quartette, Misß Laura Stone, Miss Ailsa Scott. Mr. T. B. Rowe, Mr. A. G. Fogarty, and a number of talented juveniles. A chorus of 300 children will sine choruses, accompanied by bells. Mr. T. Adams' orchestra will provide selections, and Miss Ethel Sharp will officiate at the piano. All taking part in this performance have gratuitously given their services. It is expected that there will be a large attendance of the public, as the Town Hall was packed when the ceremony was previously produced. Prices are within the reach of all, those for the body of the hall being fixed at 2s, while a large number of seats are availablo at Is, Tho opportunity of witnessing an excellent performance and helping a very worthy cause is unique ~~~ — • STORY OF THE ORPHAN. LECTURE AT MOUNT ALBERT. The campaign in aid of tho Protestant orphan homes was continued last evening when a gathering was held in the Mount Albert public hall. There was a crowded attendance. The Rev. Joseph W. Kemp presided, and gave a short address on the need (or support of the campaign. An illustrated lecture on " The Story of tho Orphan,*' was given by Mr. John Smith. With the aid of about 60 lantern slides, the lecturer gave a graphic idea of life in Auckland orphanages. The" buildings, the children, and their everyday life Were the subject of many slides. The lecture was supplemented by choir pieces by the Baptist Tabernacle Choir, and recitations and dialogues by the' children of the Mount Albert Methodist Orphanage.
