NEWCASTLE MINERS.
THE FORTNIGHT. MEN GROWING IMPATIENTA and N.Z. SYDNEY. Deo. 18. At a conference' of mining lodges in Newcastle and Maitland, it was considered that the Miners'- Federation was moving too slowly with the nine-day fortnight scheme, and the'miners decided themselves to put the scheme ihto'effect on January 10. Mr. McDonald, secretary of the Northern Coal Owners' Association, stated that the proprietors had protested to Mr. W. M. Hughes against the scheme. If the miners i were* looking for a fight they would get it.
