EMERGENCY MEASURES. GENERAL CO-OPERATION. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Beod. 1L.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 9. The secretary of the National Conference- on Unemployment reports that the following remedial measures have been taken:— L Emergency committees have been established, and are actively working in the cities and are in process of formation in ether cities. They are co-ordinating tho efforts of all sections of the community to solve the unemployment problem. 2. Conferences between the President, Mr. H. C Hoover, and heads of great national industries, including railways coal and shipping, are resulting in definite stepe to meet the emergency. 1. Great national commercial and employers' associations are assisting Mayors to meet the situation general]v. 4. A number of cities are to proceed immediately with local public works.
