He asked her about the child, and she replied that its mother had died during the influenza epidemic, and, taking a fancy ip the baby, respondent had adopted it. Petitioner asked her for tee adoption papers, but respondent said she had lost them on the wharf that morning, together with her purse. In September, 1919, he instituted inquiries following on something he had heard. He told respondent that the child had a resemblance to her. He then discovered the child had been registered as illegitimate by her, and he secured a copy of the birth certificate. He taxed her with it, and she admitted the facts, refusing to supply the name of the father, on the ground that he was dead, mid that it would do petitioner no good to know. Upon the production of the Onehunza birth register in Court, His Honor made an order for a decree nisi.
