Sept. 6. i The Milan correspondent of the Daily ; Chronicle 6tates that a Florentine policei man invested in the national lottery. > | When the numbers were published he ! | rejoiced to see his own number as the ' j winner of a million lire (£40,000). Beside himself with excitement he called his frienls together to a banquet, serving the best of good wine, and at the end presenting each with a gold watch. With the morning came disillusionment. He went to the lottery office, and demanded his million, but when asked to show his ticket he was told that ;he had drawn a blank. He expostulated, and then found that he had mistaken a ;, three for a five, and tee little difference , j deprived him of the prize. He is now j endeavouring to recover the gold watches ', from hiw friends.
