THE MAITLAND CUP,
WON BY LOYAL IRISH.
A cablegram stating that Loyal Irish had won the Maitland Cup on Saturday was received that evening by the Elleralie trainer, Mr. J. Williamson, owner of the colt mentioned. The distance of the race is a mile and a-quarter, and the cable states that Loyal Irish won nicely and gave a very pleasing performance.
This is evidently the coltfo initial three-year-old performance, and it augurs well for the son of Absurd—Moira-ma-Chree's prospects in the Australian classic and important handicap events. Loyal Irish is engaged in all the important races in Australia for the forthcoming season, including the Caulfield and Melbourne Gups as wjsil as the three-year-old classics.
