Mr. B. L. Joll and Mr. B. C. Bennett, of Hawera, are at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. A. D. Guy. of Palmerston North, and Mr. J. B. Brinsden, of "Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. J. L. Lord has been apppinted a member Off the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association.

Colonel W. Meldrum has relinquished the command of the Wellington Mounted Rifles Brigade, and has been transferred to the Reserve of Officers.

Mr. W. G. McDonald, chairman of the Board of Trade, is at the Grand HoUl. He arrived in Auckland on Saturday, and returns to Wellington to-morrow evening.

Mr. F. W. Furkett, engineer-in-chief to the Public Works Department, arrived in Auckland on Saturday morning on departmental business. He returned to Wellington last evening.

Mr. H. S. Hough, manager of the Ashburton branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of his promotion to the charge of the bank's business at Fiji. He was previously in Fiji | for about 12 years.

Captain F. Hudson and Captain R, Logan, of the New Zealand Staff Corps, have been po.=ted to the retired list, the latter with the rank of major. Hon. Captain J. F. Rockstrow has been transferred to the Reserve of Officers-

Lieut.-Colonel" H. R. Potter, officer commanding the Northern command, has been promoted to the rank of colonel, as from November 1, 1919. He will hare the temporary rank of colonel-command-ant while holding his present appointment. -

Mr. F. T. M. Kissell and Mr. J. E. L. Cull. Public Works engineers, arrived in Auckland on Saturday, for the purpose of conferring with the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, and local bodies' representatives, and engineers on hydro-electric matters. They are at the Central Hotel.

Mr. C. E. Statham, M.P. for Dunedia Central, and Leader of the Progressiva and Moderate Labour Party, is at the Grand Hotel. He is accompanied by Mrs. Statham, and by Mr. E. Kellett, M.P. for Dunedin North, the only other member of Parliament connected vrith tha new party.

The Rev. J. E. Gray, B.A-, of Eltham, ■will visit Auckland this week, in company 'with Mrs. Gray, prior to taking up mission work for the Presbyterian Churat of New Zealand in the Punjab, India. They ■will leave Sydney in October. Mr. Gray is a son of the Rev. H. B. Gray, of Hawera, formerly of St. Andrew's .Church, Auckland.

Dr. J. li. Will was granted leawa at absence at last week's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. It was stated that the leave was to enable him to spend up to 12 months in Great Britain, and that, on his return, he would be appointed for three years as officer-rn-charge of the physio-therapeutic depart- „ ment aad orthopaedic officer to tha hospital.
