The Kaipara Co-operative Lime Company's works at. Paige's Point/ Whakapirau, were auspiciously opened on Thursday, when there was a large attendance of local and Northern Wairoa residents, tne latter travelling by steamer. The works, costing, with machinery, close upon £10,000, are situated in the Pahi River, at the foot of a sheer bluff of limestone abutting into the water. "The base of the clift was excavated to provide a site for the works ,and the limestone will gravitate into and through the works to shipping. A new wharf with tramline from the works gives access to larger vessels at all states of the .tide.
The limestone hill rising sheer above the works is estimated to contain over 2,000,000- cubic yards, with further sapplies beyond. The power plant comprises a 110 horse-power engine, also an auxiliary engine and suction gas plant. A crusher and two disintegrators will put through from 50 to 70 tons of crushed lime per day. Mr. W. A. Morgan, chairman of directors, and Messrs. Alfred and Edwin Harding, spoke at the opening ceremony. The ladies of Whakapirau provided dinner and afternoon tea. Mr. W. C. Sadgrove is engineer in charge of the works. At the annual meeting of the company to-day at Dargaville, the following were elected directors: —Messrs. W. A. Morgan (chairman), W. Crawford, A. E. Harding, Thos. Bassett, J. Fleming, Rodney Coates, Wm. SimpHn, W. J. Roberts and S. Colmore Williams. Mr. Pinker was elected auditor, and Mr. A.- L. Bil- ! ling secretary.
