Following the discovery of hookworm in New South Walts the Federal Director of Health has arranged a house-to-house search and treatment by experts in the infected area. ' FARMERS AND THE TARIFF. REDUCED DUTIES URGED. MELBOURNE. Aug. 5. A petition has been presented to the Senate on behalf of primary producers in favour o! reduction of new duties in the tariff affecting them. The ground of the petition is that no difficulties should be placed in the way of the much-needed increase of production. BAKING RESUMED AT PERTH. PERTH. Aug. 5. the bakers have resumed baking conditionally, the Minister for Justice having agreed to review the whole position of the price of bread and of wheat. MELBOURNE STUD SHEEP SALES. MELBOURNE, Aug. 5. At the annual stud sheep sales the demand was poor, except for a few choice lots. For a Tasmanian Merino ram a New Zealand buyer paid 180gns.
