AUCKLAND INSTITUTE.

A lecture is to be given under the auspices of the Auckland Institute on Monday night by Professor F. P. Worley. of the Auckland University College. Professor Worley will give an outline of the history and development of the kauri gum industry, and point out its great valu-9 to the Dominion. 'Amounts and values-of gum exported will be given, also the countries to> which the gum is sent and the uses to which it is put. The methods formerly in use for obtaining "kauri gum from the fields will be discussed, together with those at present in use and improvements which are likely to be made.-The lecturer will also deal with the potential value of the kauri swamps for the production of gum, oils, and other products, and the procedure necessary to develop their industries. Some ' account will also be given of the kauri forests and their value as a future source nf gum. The lecture will be fully illustrated by lantern slides.
