The tug Asteroid was boarded, and' cleaning operations were given on the E. and. A. steamer Arafura. The apparatus is the invention of a Sydney engineer. Two. specially-arranged brushes, working to and fro on existing handles, are manipulated by machinery from the tug, which is fitted with two propellers, on the beam to keep her close to the side _of the ship on which she is working. The brushes can be arranged to work at a required depth, and it is claimed that while the thickest marine growth is removed tho paint is uninjured.
