McKean, S.M., in the j Police Court yesterday, admitted having I stolen cigarettes and tobefico valued at £2 16s 6d, from a shop in Dominion Road in October last. Capner was remanded for a week on a charge of having stolen a cheque for £25, and the magistrate re- j served his sentence on th« first theft i charge until after the hearing of the major case. In the case of Hardinge i Mr. Singer said he had made confession through the honesty of his wife and now J had a good position to go to in the j country. Like the others he was under! the influence of liquor at tho time of the offence. Hardinge and Carter were each convicted and admitted to two years' probation, restitution to be made in each j case. ■• REMAND GRANTED. Hugh Croskcry (Mr. 'J. J. Sullivan), who was charged with having taken a child, Owen Croskery, from its gua.'dian, was remanded for a week, bail being allowed in one surety of £100. TRAFFIC BYLAWS BROKEN. A list of bre'aches of by-laws was also dealt with. For offences regarding lighting and leaving motor-oars unattended, a fine of'£2 and 18s costs was imposed on O. G. Thompson, D. Eeddeway, J. R. Freeman, and A. 33oylo; and for similar offences T, Kirk-wood was fined £2 lOs and costs. J. Gibron was fined £5 and rosts, £2 17s for driving on the wrong ride of the road, and F, A. Saxton was fined £1 and costs, 21s, for a similar breach. For having driven a dray in the centre of the road and having failed to show his license a carter, H. G. Currif, .was fined £3 . and 18s costs, and P. Schneideman was ordered to pay £2 and 23s costs for cutting a corner. A fine of £2 and 9s costs was imposed on H. Sayers for speeding over an intersection. E. Kingdon was convicted of having boarded a tram in motion and ordered to. pay costs, £1 lis. For insufficient lighting on their motor-care H. Whisker and G. Parmentor were each fined 10s nnd costs, and the Rev. P. Knight was fined 10s and costs, 13*, for leaving his far unattended over the regulation period. W. Sparks, who had omitted to put a temporary number plate on his car while the founcil's pi ß ** ,Ta -> being repaired, was .convicted and ordered to pay coals.
