SETBACK TO SOCIALISTS.
LOCAL AUTHORITY ELECTIONS. A. and N.Z. BRISBANE. July 25.
The tirst local authority elections under the adult franchise were held on Saturday in town and country, and resulted in the success of the anti-Socialists, but details are not yet to hand. Mr. H. J. Diddams (Nationalist) defeated Mr. L. McDonald (secretary of the Queensland Labour Party) for the Mayoralty of Brisbane, and Mr. Faulkner (Nationalist) was elected as Mayor of South Brisbane.
Mr. H. J. Diddams. who has been elected Mayor of Brisbane, is an Aucklander, who has been resident in Brisbane for a good many years, and has been a prominent figure in its local politics.
