DECISIONS IN OTHER CASES.

A judgment on an appeal by the Northern Steamship Company (Mr. Meredith) against a determination of the Magistrate's Court, in which Frederick Howlieson (Mr. A. E. Skelton), a fireman employed on the Clansman, received judgment for £1 5s as Sunday overtime when the vessel was carrying Maoris to attend the Prince of Wales' gathering at 'Rotorua, was issued' by the Arbitration Court yesterday. The Court held that the vessel was engaged on a "special" trip within the meaning of the agreement The decision of the magistrate was upni. h costs a g ain st the company. Two opinions were -riven by Mr. Justice Frazer on cases stated and agreed upon by the Auckland Local Federated Seamen s Industrial Union of Workers and the Northern Steamship Company. In one case the Court held that seamen engaged at 8 am., but who did not sign articles until 11 a.m., were entitled to waterside workers' rate of pay for similarwork for the three hours. In the other case the Court is of opinion that a refusal to pay overtime rates to the crew of the Daphne when tnat vessel was diverted from her ordinary running and made a direct trip from Whangarei to Thames would constitute a breach of the agreement, this beine special work" within the meanino- of the agreement. °
