Having observed the value of wireless and aeroplane services in other parts of the world, the Australian Post Office which was slow to be converted—is now amnous to make all possible use of these new methods in solving the many difficult problems of communication in Australia and in the islands controlled by the Commonwealth. Difficulties however are being experienced, not the least being the delay which invariably occurs in obtaining material ordered from overseas. There is also the fact that wireless apparatus is subject to so many patent laws, that it !LfH moSt i,- l T P °^, lb l i e desi S n apparatus locally which will be suitabje to local condiuons without infringing the patent rights of someone or other. These difficulties have been responsible for delavinr* experiments in a very important branch ol wireless—namely, directional wireless.
