A BRIGHTER OUTLOOK. [BY TEI.EGEAPH. OWN COBRESTO VD2NT.] OHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. An optimistic view of the trend of business generally in Chxistchurch was expressed by Mr. W. Appleton in his address to business men in the Chamber of Commerce last evening on " Advertising and Commerce." Apropos of this he told a little story of a newspaper advertising man who approached a country cabinetmaker for an advertisement. The tradesman said he had nothing new to advertise, unless it was some cofl" n furnishing, whereupon the newspaper agent promptlv guaranteed to make him a bright advertisement. The nest day an advertisement appeared as follows: Coffins cheaper than ever. Now is the time to die." Three months ago Christchurch business men had adopted the attitude that " now was the time to die." But the speaker had found there was now a much brighter tone in local business circles. 0
