EMPLOYERS' MONEY STOLEN. THREE YEARS' PROBATION, j A salesman, John James Brennan, ageii t 25, employed by a firin of indent agents in Auckland, pleaded guilty to stealing £17 15s of the firm's money during January and February. He had received various sums, ranging from 20s to £3 16s, from different people on behalf of the firm of McKay and McKay. He failed, however, to hand these amounts in to his employers. Accused also pleaded guilty to the theft of 20s from a letter while ho was employed as a gardener at an Auckland convent in March. He was a married man with two children.. Accused was admitted to probation for three years, and was ordered to make restitution. TWO CASES OF .THE:/T. The theft of a pair o£ boots from outside a bootmaker's shop in Newmarket was denied by Ernest Edward C. Maxey, aged 40. A further charge of drunkenness on the same occasion was admitted. The shopkeeper, Reginald Roberts, stated that at 5.20 p.m. on Wednesday he fctlowed accused from his shop to a vacant allotment and discovered a pair of boofces under accused's arm. The boots (produced) had been on display outside his shop. Accused, who had been convicted of drunkenness on several occasions during the last few months sentenced to three months' imprisonment. A young man, Frank Alexander Edmonds, aged 25, who was one of four unemployed men found sleeping in a railway carriage on Wednesday, appeared (o answer a charge of the theft of a bicycle, valued at £9, at Hamilton on June 14. A fight in Customs Street at 7.15 o'clock on Wednesday evening resulted in two young men. Gostave Olsen and Donald Kennedy, being each fined 30s on charge of asing threatening behaviour.
