BEAUTIFYING BIRKENHEAD.
" WORKING BEES " IN PARS.
The area of reclaimed land near the Birkenhead Wharf, known as Hinemoa Park, which is leased by the Birkenhead Borough from the Harbour Board, is receiving necessary attention. The Birkenhead Progressive League has organised " working bees " for the improvement of the area. Last Saturday the first bee," comprising about 40 workers, painted the fences, ploughed a portion of the ground, arid prepared the area for planting a hedge. To-morrow the operations are to be continued, when blasting stumps and earth banks will be undertaken, and the hedge planted. Much enthusiasm is being displayed in the matter, and it is anticipated that the area forming Birkenhead's " front garden " will shortly be converted into a beauty spot.
