A.R.C. WINTER MEETING.

TRAINING .WORK AT ELLERSLLE. Saturday morning cam© in with 3 dull, overcast sky, but the rain kept off. and there was a good number of spectators present to witness the training work at Ellerslio. The sand track. No. 3 grass, and the hurdles were upon the outside of the course proper. The full steeplechase course was also available for schooling. C. Coleman's pair, Woori and Bute Sound, were the early workers, and they completed half a mile together in 53 2-Bs. Boomcrday and Gleaner compassed six furlongs, the former running home in lm 21 l-ss. Gleaner, who stumbled, occupied lm 24 s in running the distance. Pogado (alone) shaped nicely over six furlongs, sprinting homo over the concluding two furlonga

Treso had the best of Poanui over six furlonga. which he covered in lm 20s. Miss Ellice (alone) covered five furlongs from a stand in lm 8 3-ss. Khublai Khan, who had Lovelight as a companion, ran a circut in lm 455, defeating his mate easily. Actrice covered a circuit, sprinting home over the concluding four furlongs. Rockfield and Penona were stretched qnt over six furlongs, which were run in lm 20s. with the margin in favour of the latter. Comedy Prince and Pepin came home together in a smart five furlongs, which they completed in lm ss.

Foxglove ran the lags seven furlongs of a round, in lm 40s.

Festivity and No Bother ran six; furlongs in lm 235, Balgony chasing them home-

Grab (alone) took 53s to cover four furlongs on the sand.

Old Mungindi performed portion of his work on the sand and portion on the grass track. The veteran looks well.

Pentagram gal over seven furlonga on the sand in lm 395. Gladful and Lord Nagar galloped a couple of miles in company at a solid pace, both moving well. *

Thrace and Regality ran five furlongs in lm 7 2-ss.

Whitehall and Miss Melva covered six furlongs in moderate time. Tresor and Commission galloped six furlongs on the sand at a solid pace, and Bright Light (alone) accomplished a similar task, finishing well.-

Esthonia beat Mumble over five furlongs, run in lm 4 2-Sa. The first four furlonga were reeled off in 50s.

.Glen Canny was responsible for a sound six furlonga in which he nan clean away from Bang and completed the distance pleasingly in lm 19 3-ss.

Tenacious had the best of Gladwin over seven furlongs on the sand, run in lm 345. Clonmel ran the last seven furlongs of a round in lm 40s.

Pavo and Fort Kegel battled out a. moderate six furlongs. Pinearch had the best of Sir Euon over a tew furlongs. Bezant and Esplanade finished together over six furlongs in lm 21s. Jaffna and Herschies sprinted four furlongs m 69 2-Ss. Northland and Isingaroh ran. seven, furlongs in lm 525. . Crowhurst (alone) sprinted five furlongs in lm -9s

Oakleigh (alone) put hi two strong rounds on the grass. The first seven furlongs were run m lm 41 4-ss, and the second in lm 41s—an excellent Eallop. Mangawhero easily defeated Wish Wynne over the last six furlongs of seven, compassed in lm 21 l-ss. North Loburn sprinted five furlongs in lm 7s. Lightning accomplished a similar task. Others to put in serviceable work were Mustard Pot. Wake, Bindle. Sam. Fife and Drum, Impudence, Dunrobin,' Lady Bruce, Irish Knight, Miss Norval, Dead Sweet, Walton. Broadwood, Peer Rosa, Dactylis, and Gold Plane. Kauri King, Pendoon. Multiplane, and Lady Energy started together for a round of the hurdles on the outside of the course proper. The three first-named were in front of Lady Energy at the first obstacle, which the mare struck heavily and fell. Multiplane struck the second hurdle and was pulled off. Kauri King and Pendoon finished together, but the margin was in favour of Kauri King. The time recorded (2m 17 l-ss) was good, considering the state of the ground. Harbour Light schooled over the five hurdles and accomplished his task in safety, but the pace was never on.. Hokomai and Totara Jack worked in the centre of the course, jumping six furlongs profioiently. This parr are very fit. Guianform and Sylvan Silk negotiated the same obstacles safely. Otara, Swastika, Marconi, and Fiery Brook were, sent out together on a schooling lesson. The latter ran off at the second fence, and wound up ou the two-year-old track. Marconi baulked, but he subsequently finished his task.

Octoplote and Kfllird were companions m a. round over six furlongs, the first-named, who led throughout, showing to most advantage, and acquitting himself attractively. Coalition, Lombardy, Kour*, Silverton. and Maira jumped off in company for a round over the steenlechase fences, which included the hill. The quintette, were all found standing up properly until the stone wall at the head of the straight. Coalition 9truck this fence heavily, and unseated his rider, H. Wormald. Lombardy and Koura finished ovor the stone wn.ll pa»t the double together, both going well. Coalition galloped away without hi* rider, but he escaoed iniury, a* also did Wormald. Lady Sabretache and Mary Bruce negotiated the steeplechase fences on the flat safely.

MR. G. D. GREENWOOD'S RACERS.

EARLY SHIPMENT TO SYDNEY. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday.

Arrangements have been completed for the shipment of Mr. G. D. Greenwood's team of racers to Sydney, and all continuing well Mr. R. J. Mason will leave with them by the steamer leaving Wellington on June 2. In addition to Gloaming, Mr. Mason will take a couple of maiden two-year-olds, Cupidon (Martian—B.B.), and Coniston (Sunny Lake—Prank), and the yearling filly Veil (Absurd—Cowl). The last-named is a sister to Rational, and is a promising filly. Cupidon and Coniston are getting through usetdl tasks, and they both shape well. Gloaming has just been taken in hand again. The Welkin gelding, who is very much in the rough after his spell, has not done any work on the tracks, but he is being given some light exercise, leaving the more serious part of his preparation to oe gone on with when he arrives in Sydney. It IS understood that C. Emmerson will do the riding on Mr. G. D. Greenwood's horses during the Australian trip.
