RUGBY UNION IN SYDNEY
N.Z. UNIVERSITY'S TOUR. FIRST TEST DRAWN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. Ma? 28. The first test match between the New Zealand and Sydney University Rngby Union teams was played here to-day, and resulted in a draw, each side scoring 9 points. There was an attendance of 6000. The New Zealand team had the best of play in the early stages, and as result of pressure on the local line, Pea fell across, but Harty failed to convert. The Sydney threequarter line then stormed the New Zealand goal, Farquhar scoring. Nothling failed., to convert. Aitken, who was conspicuous among the New Zealanders, sprinted strongly down the field, but the ball went out of touch before he was able to gather it in.
The game, which was being played fast and determinedly, bristled with exciting moments. The New Zealand backs were considerably bustled at times by the opposing forwards. Emerging from a tussle in the New Zealand twenty-five Fea. retired, having torn the muscles of his right arm. Prior to the interval Sheehan broke through from the line-out and transferred to Morgan, who scored. Nothling again- failed to convert, making the half-time scores: Sydney, 6; New Zealand 3.
On resuming the Sydney backs did some excellent passing, and threw the New Zealanders on to the defensive, Nothling eventually kicking a goal from a mark taken near the halfway flag. The whole of the New Zealand backs now combined in hot attacks upon Sydney's goal, a force-down resulting. Returning hotly to the attack, Aitken, by a fine individual effort, broke through and passed to Harty, who crossed the line under the posts. Cabot, shortly after, added another try by flustering the fullback, scoring without opposition. Aitken failed in both I attempts at goal. The game conclnded shortly afterwards, with the score 9 all.
