NEW NELSON LETTERS.
A CHARACTERISTIC TOUCH.
HIS 'HUNGER FOR GLORY.
(Received 8.5 p.m J
LONDON. May .21.
Lord Spencer has handed to the Times' three previously unpublished letters written by Lord Nelson, aboard the San Josef, between 1797 and 1801, to the second Earl Spencer, then First Lord of the Admiralty. Two of the letters eulogise the seagoing qualities of the ship which Nelson captured in the Battle cf St. Vincent. He urges that he be allowed to take the San Josef on the Baltic expedition. With a characteristic touch, he says, " My only desire is to have a. ship which will carry me swiftly alongside the Russians. I long to keep the San Josef for a knock at a French first-rater wjien we have settled our difference with, PauL" Nelson adds: "If it be a sin to covet glory, I am the most offending soul alive."
