.DEPARTMENT'S INSISTENCE
WARNING TO EMPLOYEES.

The Defence Department, in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary to the Treasury, insists upon strict economy in expenditure on behalf of the Government. All employees are warned that they are occupying positions of trust, and should give the best service to the State. They must exercise economy in the administration" of stores and employ the smallest staff possible. Inefficiency or neglect to comply to these 'requirements will be suitably dealt with. • Any defence official purchasing .supplies or paying for services on behalf of the Government outside of the official machinery provided, or in excess of the ruling market rate, is liable to be surcharged for the resultant loss to .the public.
